The 4th arrondissement is one of the nine arrondissements of Lyon (borough). It is on the hill of Croix-Rousse . It borders in the south on the 1st arrondissement , in the east on the Rhone (border with the 6th arrondissement ), in the west on the Saône (border with the 9th arrondissement ) and finally in the north with the municipality of Caluire-et-Cuire .

history

The 4th arrondissement is one of the five created by presidential decree of March 24, 1852. It originated within the limits of the old municipality of La Croix-Rousse .

administration

The Conseil d'arrondissement (corresponds roughly to the local advisory board ) is the advisory body of the arrondissement. It consists of 15 members, 4 of whom are also City Council of Lyon. David Kimelfeld ( PS ) has been the mayor of the arrondissement since July 2011 .

With an area of ​​293 hectares, the arrondissement covers the Croix-Rousse plateau.

Culture

particularities

  • The famous market of La Croix-Rousse (organic market on Saturday mornings) takes place every day (except Monday). It extends over a length of one kilometer over the Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse.
  • On Saturday and Sunday mornings there is still the public crier here .
  • Every September, the République des Canuts grape harvest takes place in the Park de la Cerisaie .
  • The chestnut festival takes place every year in October and November .
  • On the 2nd weekend in September, the Grande Braderie (the big sale ) takes place on the Grande Rue and the Place de la Croix-Rousse .

  1. The Crieur public (public crier) was the (official) bailiff in southern Germany. He had to call out the official notices and was often the local policeman. - He's a character in some carnival sessions.
