The 6th arrondissement is an arrondissement (municipality) of the city ​​of Marseille in the south of France . In 2007, 43,360 people lived here.

It is located just south of Marseille city center. In the north it borders on the 1st arrondissement , in the east on the 4th and 10th , in the south on the 8th and in the west on the 7th arrondissement .

The arrondissement is divided into six districts :

The arrondissement is one of the most middle-class and wealthiest in the city, especially in its central and western parts. Here you will find the prefecture , the Opera and the Palace of Justice as well as part of the rue de Rome , the city's most important shopping street, and to the west on the top of a hill is the Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde basilica , the city's landmark. The part east of the rue de Rome , v. a. the La Plaine district around and around the Notre-Dame-du-Mont church, which is also on top of a hill, is ethnically and socially very mixed and is a preferred residential area for artists and intellectuals.
