The 7 × 20 mm Nambu cartridge and the associated pistol were designed by Colonel Kijiro Nambu and were a scaled-down version of the Type 14 pistol introduced into the Imperial Japanese Army . The first information about this weapon dates back to 1929. Thereafter, the pistol is said to have been issued to officers, whereas other sources say that this pistol in caliber 7 mm was only made for civilian use. The production of the weapon and ammunition took place only in Japan and ended with the defeat of Japan in World War II .
