The office of Fritz Novotny and Arthur Mähner was founded 1959th Initially mainly active in the Frankfurt am Main area , it took part in many federal tenders. The founders were friends with Paul Friedrich Posenenske , and many designs are considered to be mutually influenced.

In addition to many designs for public buildings, the office was best known for its high-rise projects, many of which were realized in Frankfurt. In 1990 the office developed the Frankfurt skyscraper master plan for the banking district .
After bankruptcy in 2004, the office was continued as the N + M GmbH architectural group.
