Aalbude is a district of the town of Dargun in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
geography
Aalbude is located about five kilometers south of Dargun and one kilometer west of Verchen on the outflow of the Peene from the Kummerower See at an altitude of 0 to 1 m above sea level. NHN . The district is located in the former nature reserve Moorwiesen near Neukalen , which has merged into the nature reserve Peenetal from Salem to Jarmen in the Mecklenburg Switzerland and Kummerower See nature reserve .
history
In the 14th century, the place was on an island, which was flown around west by the Achterpeene, which is now filled in and silted up . The fishermen who settled here were known as eel fishermen . They managed the eel weirs built in the Peene , which they had to open for ships passing through. In 1697 the name Aalbude appeared for the first time.
The Peene formed the border between Mecklenburg and Pomerania . In addition to a ferry , there was a Mecklenburg customs post here . Until the 19th century, a tax was levied on all goods that passed through Aalbude.
In 1893 the first ferry house was built in Aalbude. Since the health status of travelers was checked here, it was called the Cholera House. In 1904 a boat ferry was built on behalf of the Mecklenburg Grand Ducal Office . This also made it possible for lighter wagons to pass through, while trucks were not allowed to use it because the meadow dam was not designed for this purpose. The ferry house was demolished in 1973 due to sponge infestation . In the following year, the ferry in need of repair was aground.
After the fall of the Wall in 1997, a water hiking rest area was set up near Aalbude .
Cyclists and pedestrians can take the MVVG's "Aalbude ferry" from May to October .
