Tuanku Abdul Rahman ibni Almarhum Tuanku Muhammad (born August 24, 1895 in Kuala Lumpur , † April 1, 1960 in Seri Menanti , Negeri Sembilan ) was the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) of Malaysia after independence on August 31, 1957 .

He was head of state ( Yamtuan Besar ) of the state of Negeri Sembilan since 1933 . In the Malaysian monarchy , he was elected head of the entire state in the first royal election on August 31, 1957 by the rulers of nine states.

Abdul Rahman prevailed with eight to one votes against his opponent Sultan Abu Bakar of Pahang . His five-year term ended with his death on April 1, 1960. His successor was Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah of Selangor .
