From the end of January 1986 to 1991 he was ambassador to Ankara. The sale of Turkish armaments to Saudi Arabia experienced an upswing during this period. Even before the parliamentary elections in Turkey in 1983 on November 6, 1983, Sultan ibn Abd al-Aziz was able to admire the quality of Turkish armaments locations: He visited the Tusaş Engine Industries in Eskişehir, the Completely Knocked Down for the Leopard 2 from Krupp in Arifiye and the U- Boat and guided missile destroyer shipyard in Gölcük (Kocaeli) and concluded a Turkish-Saudi investment agreement for the acquisition of armaments by the Saudi regime. The Saudi Shura was informed that Turkey would daily consolidate its position as the most reliable state in the Middle East and that Turkey's industrial and technological advances would continue, especially in the arms industry.
After the governments in Tehran and Riyadh could not agree on a hādj to Mecca / population quota, they ended diplomatic relations in April 1988.
