Abdullah Thenni or el-Thenni ( Arabic عبد الله الثني, DMG ʿAbd Allāh aṯ-Ṯanī , born January 7, 1954 in the Kingdom of Libya ) is a Libyan politician who served as Prime Minister of the country from March 11, 2014 to March 2016. He succeeded Ali Seidan , who was overthrown by parliament, the General National Congress , by a vote of no confidence because of the criticism and the growing influence of the Muslim Brothers because of his failure to oppose the actions of the autonomy movement of the Cyrenaica .

Thenni was trained at the Royal Libyan Military Academy, which is now the Benghazi Military University Academy . In the government of Ali Seidan, he was politically independent defense minister.

On April 13, 2014, Thenni announced his resignation as interim minister-president under interim president Nuri Busahmein because he and his family had been victims of a “treacherous armed attack” by militias the day before . On August 29, he announced the resignation of his cabinet - a few days after the Fajr Libia Alliance declared an opposing government in the capital Tripoli in the course of the second civil war from 2014 onwards . However, the new parliament in Tobruk , the Council of Representatives , asked Thenni to take over government responsibility and form a new cabinet. This was approved in September with 110 votes out of 112. In May 2015, Thenni survived an attack unharmed. In March 2016, the United Nations Security Council called on the member states of the United Nations to sever relations with Thennis, such as with the government of Khalifa al-Ghweiler .
