history

The history of today's place begins with the establishment of a wine business owned by the Russian royal family in the early 1870s. The name was derived from the Circassian words abrau for 'steep slope' and djurso for 'four sources'. At first the grape varieties Riesling and Blauer Portugieser were cultivated, later also Cabernet Sauvignon , Pinot Gris , Traminer and others. At the end of the 19th century, the focus was on the production of sparkling wines using the classic bottle fermentation method . In 1920 wine production was nationalized and a state farm was established.

During the German-Soviet war , the place was captured by the German Wehrmacht on September 6, 1942 and recaptured by the Red Army on September 18, 1943 . In 1948 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement , which it lost again in 2006 as part of the administrative reform in Russia.
