Christopher J. "Chris" Parks (* 4. October 1973 in Washington, DC ) is an American wrestler and former American football player of the NFL . Until 2019 he was active in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling under the names Abyss and Joseph Park .
Wrestling career
Beginnings
Before his wrestling career, Chris Parks was a football player. In March 1993 he played in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers . He was then trained as a wrestler by Roger Ruffin.
Parks started his wrestling career at the age of 22 in the Northern Wrestling Federation (NWF) . In 2002, Parks came to NWA Wildside , where he was allowed to hold the local heavyweight title. There he formed a team with AJ Styles . On May 17, 2003, he won the IWA World Tag Team title at IWA Puerto Rico .
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (2002-2019)
Parks has been with TNA since June 2003 as "The Monster" Abyss . Although he feuded there with AJ Styles, he was allowed to receive the NWA World Tag Team Championship with Styles 2004 .
After several feuds, Parks was allowed to defeat Sting in November 2007 and won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship . In January 2008 he had to lose the title to Christian Cage .
After some feud programs he worked for the "TNA Creative Committee" for a while, but did not do this for long. Already on June 8th he returned to the current ring events at the PPV "Slammiversary".
From October 2010 to October 2011 he was a member of the Stable Immortal , which had its role model in the new World order of the former WCW and which, according to the storyline, tried to take control of TNA. Parks was allowed to win the TNA Television Championship at Genesis on January 9, 2011 , but lost it due to an injury on March 14, 2011.
On May 16, 2011, Parks received the TNA X Division Championship for the first time . The loss of the title followed on July 10, 2011 at Destination X to Brian Kendrick .
As of March 2012, Parks no longer joined Abyss, but as his brother, lawyer Mr. Joseph Park, Esq. and feuded first against Bully Ray and then against the grouping Aces & Eights .
At the Impact Wrestling edition on May 9, 2013, Parks returned as Abyss to feud against the Aces and Eights alongside Sting and Kurt Angle , among others . Since then, Parks has appeared in both gimmicks. After parks not as Joseph Park at Slammiversary XI to the TNA Television Championship against Devon compete could , entered Abyss in his place and won the title for the second time.
After Decay was defeated by LAX in a street fight on April 27, 2017 and then buried , he has been back as his brother, lawyer Joseph Park, since the IW Show on May 18, 2017 .
On October 18, Mitchell inducted Abyss into the Hall of Fame . On January 23, 2019, Impact Wrestling complied with his request and released him from his contract.
