history

Emergence

The academy was founded in 1978 by Josef Juhar ( theologian and music expert of Hungarian origin) in Rome. In addition to Josef Juhar, founding members a. a. Nino Albarosa, Nino Antonellini, József Molnár , Elsa Respighi , Nino Rota , Monika Ryba and Carlo Zecchi . The academy was initially called Accademia Musicale Ottorino Respighi (AMOR) (named after the Italian composer Ottorino Respighi ), but was then renamed Academia Musicae Pro Mundo Uno in 1996 . With the name change, Juhar wanted to make it clear that the academy does not see itself as a purely music-oriented institution, but sees its goal in the overall formation of a balanced and harmonious person as an individual and as a member of a well-ordered human society.

Juhar's establishment was preceded by three cultural undertakings closely related to music and of international scope:

  • the establishment of the International Circle of Friends of Rome (1960)
  • the creation of the CENTRUM INTERNATIONALIS PRO RENOVATIONE S. STEPHANI ROTUNDI , the International Center for the Renewal of Santo Stefano Rotondo (1960). Juhar secured the idea of a contemporary renewal of the abandoned, 1500-year-old Christian central building on the Roman Monte Caelio in the spirit of ecumenism with around twenty major concerts in various European cities (Rome, Bonn, Cologne, Trier, Würzburg) in the years 1962–1968 the attention of a global public. Juhar's endeavors supported u. a. Musicians like Antal Doráti , Rafael Kubelík or Sándor Végh , architects like Emil Steffan and Maria Schwarz , the painter Max Rüedi , the art historian Eckart Peterich and, last but not least, the great German poet Gertrud von le Fort
  • the takeover, further development and restructuring of a festival founded by the Menuhin student Alberto Lysy in Città di Castello as artistic director (1972). This festival was characterized by Juhar as FESTIVAL DELLE NAZIONI DI MUSICA DA CAMERA , as a festival of nations, which was expressed both in the name and through the - at the time innovative - idea of the annual dedication of the festival to different nations.

activities

The academy's music festival under the name FESTA MVSICA PRO MVNDO VNO (master courses and concerts) was characterized by the inclusion of the music world from Central and Eastern Europe ; For example, the appearances in Assisi (1980–1992), Orvieto (1992–1995) and Rome (1996–2001) were successful . There were ten private concerts in the papal residence in Castel Gandolfo (1988–2001). Since the death of Josef Juhar (2005), the Academy has primarily devoted itself to expanding its international and ecumenical choir meetings MUNDUS CANTAT , which took place in Juhar's Santo Stefano Initiative (1960–1968) and in the idea of an ECUMENE THROUGH THE MUSIC (Orvieto 1996 ) are justified. In Mundus Cantat , held annually in Rome since 1997, amateur choirs can participate in all categories and regardless of their faith. Preferred locations for this ecumenical event are the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls and Santa Maria in Trastevere . The benefit concerts CONCERTI PRO AFRICA take place in Trastevere , with which the Academy supports the Dream (AIDS aid for Africa) program run by the Sant'Egidio community as part of MUNDUS CANTAT . The aim of MUNDUS CANTAT is to combine religious, musical and general cultural experiences. The various events of this initiative, which is open to ecumenical and interreligious dialogue, have been organized for many years under the patronage of the Pontifical Council of Culture and the respective President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe .
