The genus Acampe from the family of the orchid (Orchidaceae) consists of about eight species . They are mainly epiphytic plants. They are widespread in the Paleotropic .

description

The growth of Acampe done monopodial that Sprossachse growing on top and on and branches out only occasionally. In the lower part of the plant there are a few thick roots covered with velamen . The leaves sit in two rows on the shoot. The leaf bases enclose the shoot, between the base and leaf blade there is a separating tissue. The leaves are leathery or fleshy and linear in shape. The racemose or slightly branched inflorescence arises from the leaf axils . It is usually shorter than the leaves. The flowers are not resupinated and have a fleshy, stiff consistency. Sepals and petals are the same colored and shaped, the inner petals are smaller than the outer three. The lip is unlobed or three-lobed. At its base it is fused with the column base to form a sack-like, short spur. The interior and opening of the spur are hairy in some species. The column is short and thick. At its end is the stamen with four unequal sized pollinia . One large and one small pollinium are connected to the adhesive disc (viscidium) via a stalk (stipe). The stigma is a slightly recessed area arranged transversely to the column axis, separated from the stamen by a short, slightly protruding separating tissue (rostellum).

distribution

The genus Acampe has a wide distribution in the Paleotropic. It is represented in Africa and Madagascar with the species Acampe pachyglossa . In Asia, the area extends from India via the Southeast Asian mainland to Malaysia and the Philippines.

Systematics and botanical history

John Lindley established the genus Acampe in 1853 with the species Acampe cephalotes .

An examination of the relationships within the Vandeae tribe revealed the genera Staurochilus , Gastrochilus and Haraella as close relatives . Other related genera are summarized in the subtribe Aeridinae .

The following types are known:

  • Acampe carinata (handle.) Panigrahi : It occurs from India and from the Himalayas to Hainan.
  • Acampe cephalotes Lindl. : It occurs from Assam to northern Bangladesh.
  • Acampe hulae Telepova : The species first described in 2009 occurs in Cambodia and Laos.
  • Acampe joyceyana (JJSm.) Seidenf. : It occurs in Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam.
  • Acampe ochracea (Lindl.) Hochr. : It occurs from India to China and Indochina.
  • Acampe pachyglossa Rchb.f. : It occurs from southern Somalia to northeastern KwaZulu-Natal and on islands in the western Indian Ocean.
  • Acampe praemorsa (Roxb.) Leaf. & McCann : It occurs in tropical and subtropical Asia. There are two varieties:
    • Acampe praemorsa var. Longepedunculata (Trimen) Govaerts (Syn .: Acampe rigida (Buchanan-Hamilton ex JESmith) PFHunt ): It occurs in tropical and subtropical Asia.
    • Acampe praemorsa var. Praemorsa : It occurs from the Indian subcontinent to Myanmar.
