Acid was an Austrian rock band from Vienna . It was founded in 1971 by Robert Ponger and achieved great popularity in Austria after winning the Show-Chance talent competition in 1972. After three albums, it broke up around 1980.

history

Founded in 1971, Acid took part in the Austrian talent competition Show-Chance in 1972 and took first place. In 1974 the first album Acid was released . Successful hits were Hipguard (appeared as a single and was not part of the album) and Six To Seven , which at that time were played in a friendly manner every day on the radio station Ö3 of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation in the programs Hitpanorama or Please . Then the line-up changed. Peter Koller was the first to play the guitar with Acid and later became guitarist with Wolfgang Ambros .

With the changed line-up Herbert Novacek (vocals, bass), Rudi Staeger (drums), Johann Zekar (guitar) and Robert Zidek (keyboard, percussion, Hammond B3) they played successfully until the mid-1970s. This was the composition of the album MORE ACID in 1975 with the hit single Hey Freddy (number 9 on the Austrian hit parade). The last line-up of the band included Herbert Novacek (vocals, bass), Rudi Staeger (drums), Reinhard Kühne (guitar) and Wolfgang Staribacher (percussion, keyboards, trombone), and the last album, Acid Age ( Polydor ), appeared in the Schmettersound -Studio was recorded in March / April 1978. Around 1980 the band broke up. In 2014 the band got together again with the line-up Herbert Novacek (vocals, bass), Rudi Staeger (drums) and Wolfgang Staribacher (percussion, keyboard, trombone) and they began to play smaller gigs with them. A limited new edition (500 pieces, vinyl only) of the debut album ACID will be presented on October 24, 2014 at a concert in the "Stage Purkersdorf". An Austria tour is planned for 2015.
