Pier Antonio Panzeri (born June 6, 1955 in Riviera D'Adda ) is an Italian politician of the Articolo 1 party . He was a member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2019 .

Life

Panzeri was Secretary General of the Milan Chamber of Labor from 1995 to 2003 . During this time he was also the initiator and leader of a humanitarian aid campaign for Belém , a city in the Amazon basin . He was a sponsor and organizer of charity events for the civilian war victims in the former Yugoslavia . He also took the issue between observers of Israel and Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly in part. Together with the city administrations of Milan, Barcelona and Frankfurt am Main , he worked on various topics, including economic development, immigration and the welfare state, as part of an international project for the exchange of experiences, as well as the development of a common European model for solving serious problems of the present. From 2003 to 2004 he was responsible for European politics.

Panzeri was a member of Uniti nell'Ulivo , which in 2005 was absorbed into the new Democratici di Sinistra party, of which he was a member. In 2008 the second merger to form Partito Democratico (PD) took place, which he left in 2017 to join the new party Art.1-MDP.

Panzeri was elected to the European Parliament for the first time in 2004 for L'Ulivo, where he joined the Socialist Group . In 2009 he was re-elected for the PD.

Panzeri was elected as a member of the PD for the eighth electoral term and was again a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs for the entire period from 2014 to 2019 . He also served as an alternate member of the Committee on Budgets and the delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean for the term . Panzeri chaired the delegation for relations with the Maghreb countries and the Maghreb Arab Union from 2014 to 2017, and in this capacity was a member of the Conference of Delegation Chairs , which he chaired. From 2017 to 2019 he was Chairman of the Subcommittee on Human Rights and thus a member of the Conference of Committee Chairs . In the summer of 2017 Panzeri switched to the Art.1-MDP party, but remained in the group of the Progressive Alliance of Social Democrats in the European Parliament (S&D).
