CI Acid Orange 36 (common name metanil yellow) is an azo dye and indicator that is used todeterminethe pH value . Its transition point is between pH 1.2 and 2.3, with the color changing from red to yellow. It is sometimes used as a food color ,but is not approvedfor this use in the EU . Acid Orange 36 causes hepatotoxic effectsin laboratory tests, for example in rats.
