The dwarf Gauchheil or small field ( Anagallis minima , Syn .: Centunculus minimus ) belongs to the genus Gauchheil ( Anagallis ) in the subfamily of the myrsine family (Myrsinoideae).
Identifying features
The dwarf Gauchheil is an inconspicuous, annual herbaceous plant that reaches stature heights of only 2 to 8 cm. The alternate leaves are ovate-pointed and 3 to 6 mm long. Basal leaves are mostly missing.
It can bloom all summer (between May and September). The mostly four-fold flowers sit individually in the leaf axils. The 1.5 mm long, white or pink flowers petals are divided to about the middle. They are shorter than the chalice and often fall off early.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.
Occurrence
The dwarf Gauchheil was found scattered all over Germany, more widespread in the west than in the east. Due to the intensification of arable farming, the drainage of fields and increased fertilization, it has become rare everywhere. Therefore it is on the red list of endangered species in most federal states . In Germany, the dwarf Gauchheil is in the Red List Category 3 (endangered).
The dwarf Gauchheil occurs in moist, acidic fields or on damp roadsides. He prefers low-lime, low-humic, sandy loam and clay soils. In Central Europe it is a character species of the Centunculo-Anthocerotetum, but also occurs in other societies of the Nanocyperion association. It reaches altitudes of up to 450 meters in the Black Forest.
