Adalbert Schnizlein

Adalbert Carl Friedrich Hellwig Conrad Schnizlein (born April 15, 1814 in Feuchtwangen , † October 24, 1868 in Erlangen ) was a German botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Schnizl. "

Life

Adalbert Schnizlein's father was the botanist Karl Friedrich Christoph Wilhelm Schnizlein (1780–1856). His mother was Doris Schnizlein, daughter of the Bavarian church council, vice dean and pastor Johann Friedrich Salomon Luz . Schnizlein first completed an apprenticeship as a pharmacist in Ansbach and Nördlingen . After completing his apprenticeship, he began studying pharmacy at the University of Munich and finally received his doctorate in 1836 from the University of Erlangen . His habilitation followed nine years later .

In 1850 Schnizlein was appointed professor of botany at the University of Erlangen and he took over the management of the city's botanical garden .

For volume 4 number 1 (1852/63) of Flora brasiliensis by the German botanist Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius , he wrote about the "Lacistemaceae". For the beginning of Theodor Friedrich Ludwig Nees von Esenbeck published Genera plantarum florae germanicae wrote he supplies with the numbers 25, 28 and 31st

Schnizlein was a morphologist, systematist and florist as well as an excellent draftsman. He was an honorary member of the nature-searching society to Bamberg and was on 15 October 1843 the nickname . Lobelius II as a member ( Matriculation no. 1524 ) to the scholarly Academy Leopoldina added.
