Adam Christ

Adam Christ (born March 12, 1856 in Bamberg , † February 19, 1881 in Munich ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Adam Christ was born as the son of a stonemason in Bamberg and initially trained with him. After moving to Munich, he was initially taught by Johann von Halbig . On October 19, 1874, Adam Christ was enrolled in the sculpture school of the Munich Academy of Fine Arts (matriculation 3042). There he received his training from Max von Widnman . Because of his award-winning achievements during his studies for a Simson group and the statue Muse of History , Christ received a scholarship .

During his short creative period he received orders for the statue of a standard bearer at the town hall in Eltmann , for a statue of Saint Otto and a city fountain in his home town of Bamberg. On his behalf, he assisted Widnmann in the design of the two dioscuri - Castor and Pollux - on the stairs of the new Munich Art Academy. For his group of a good Samaritan he received a first prize in a competition.

On February 18, 1881, there was a fire in the Munich restaurant "Kils Colosseum", as a result of which several students of the Munich Academy died, including the sculptor Adam Christ. They were buried in this common grave in the Old Southern Cemetery in Munich. Location

Adam Christ was the victim of a fire on February 19, 1881 at the age of 24 during a carnival festival of the Munich artists. He was buried in the old southern cemetery (grave field 20 - row 8 - place 14) location . The grave of Adam Christ's younger brother Fritz , who also worked as a sculptor in Munich, is also located in the old southern cemetery in the new part .
