Fritz Christ
Fritz Christ , actually Friedrich Christ (born January 7, 1866 in Bamberg , † July 5, 1906 in Munich ) was a German sculptor , medalist and alpinist .
Life
Fritz Christ was born as the son of a stonemason in Bamberg and initially trained with him. At the end of 1880 he moved to his brother Adam in Munich in order to perfect his skills there. From 1882 Fritz Christ received his further artistic training with a grant from King Ludwig II as a sculptor at the Munich Art Academy under Wilhelm von Rümann , Wilhelm Widemann and Syrius Eberle . During his studies he received his first art prizes for his bronze models, including a dying warrior . Fritz Christ made numerous small sculptures in marble and bronze , which he showed at the annual art exhibitions in the Munich Glass Palace . He has been appointed as a juror at Glaspalast exhibitions several times. Fritz Christ made numerous sculptures for monuments and tombs, which can still be found today mainly in Munich cemeteries. After his untimely death, a retrospective of his work took place in the Munich Glass Palace in 1907 . His sculptures were awarded prizes at exhibitions in the Munich Glass Palace, at art exhibitions in Paris and Chicago, and at an art show in Copenhagen . One of his female statues was added to the holdings of the Munich Glyptothek .
In addition to his artistic activity, Fritz Christ was an active gymnast and ambitious mountaineer . He was a member of the Bayerland-Munich section of the German and Austrian Alpine Club and co-founder and member of the committee of the men's gymnastics club in Munich. Fritz Christ was first climbers of different climbing routes, including the Laliderer Falk from the Falkenkar and Sulzleklammspitze North Face ( Karwendel ) and exceeding the Ruchenköpfe with Durchkletterung the west wall ( Schliersee Mountains ).
Fritz Christ's older brother - Adam Christ - was also a sculptor.

Fritz Christ died of appendicitis at the age of 40 . The tomb of Fritz Christ is on the old southern cemetery in Munich (burial site 40 - Row 7 - 6th place) Location . The older brother Adam Christ is also in the old southern cemetery buried (burial site 20 - Row 8 - 14th) Location .
