Adam & Eve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Adam & Eve is the name of a German Schlager duo in two different line-ups.

First occupation

Eve, bourgeois: Eva Bartova (born March 26, 1938 in Vejprty / Böhmen, according to other information in Pilsen , † September 17, 1989 in Chicago / Illinois ) came to Germany in 1963. Bartova was trained as a classical ballet dancer in Czechoslovakia and studied classical singing. It is believed that she first came to the GDR , as a record was released there that same year under the artist name "Erika Bartova". The circumstances of how she came to West Germany are presented in different ways. She is said to have sung with the band "Eve Bartova & The Bartovs" in the 1960s and, on the occasion of a performance in Sweden, her future singing partner Adam No. 1, (the "dark-haired"), civil: John Christian Dee (* 5. February 1944 in Tonawanda / Buffalo , New York ; † August 18, 2004 in London ). Adam came to England from America with his mother in the 1950s .

Both musicians signed a record deal in Germany in 1964 and released their first single together in 1966. The title was called They can look at us and laugh , which was already able to place in the charts and gave the two a television appearance. In the following months the duo recorded numerous titles in both English and German, some of which appeared in the charts. The titles could sometimes be assigned to the "Beat" area, sometimes to the "Schlager" area. The music was mostly written by Adam, who also acted as the duo's producer. Adam also wrote new titles for other groups. In the autumn of 1966, the duo's only long-playing record was released that also contained solo recordings. During this time, the two lived in the Obererlenbach district of Bad Homburg vor der Höhe . Howard Carpendale , who had recently moved from South Africa to Europe but was still completely unknown at the time, was one of her circle of friends. After a few more attempts to establish themselves on the music market, the duo split in late 1968 / early 1969 without the duo having a particularly big hit. Johnnie had married the British Janie Jones in November 1968 and then lived in Great Britain , but came back to Germany in the mid-1970s. Because of dangerous bodily harm to his girlfriend, he was imprisoned for six years, but used a free passage to escape and is said to have fled to France . In its 1/2005 issue, the music magazine "Good Times" reported that Johnnie Christian Dee died on August 18, 2004 in London.

Second occupation

After separating from Johnnie Christian Dee (Adam No. 1), Eve joined the combo of Hartmut "Harry" Schairer (born February 23, 1946 in Stuttgart ), which under various names ("Soul Generation", "Soul Organization") occurred. Hartmut attended the Stuttgart Conservatory in his hometown , where he studied piano, bass and clarinet. He became Adam No. 2 (the "blonde"). In 1969 the duo received a recording deal, and in the same year the new formation's first single (Shaggy Dog) was released . The two married in 1972 and soon became one of the most famous hit duos in Germany. From 1976 Eve's son Roberto from his first marriage lived with them in Neunkirchen near Cologne. The duo also recorded a record with him (spring melody) . Many more of their hits became hits. So are when the sun wakes up in the mountains , you are going away , the lost city or Lailola of the most successful pop songs of the 1970s. Adam & Eve also won the ZDF hit parade in September 1977 with Hungarian Nights .

In 1982 the Schairer couple separated. Eve later married singer Jimmy Harrison, but the marriage fell apart a short time later. Eve then went to America, where she died of cancer on September 17, 1989 in Chicago. Hartmut Schairer worked as a composer and producer after separating from Eve . He wrote titles for Claudia Jung , Andy Borg , Isabel Varell , Heike Schäfer , Kristina Bach and Nadine Norell , among others , and is still active in the industry today.

In addition to the descriptions above, there are numerous contradicting statements in the media about the career of the two duos. According to other sources, Eve is said to have met her Adam No. 1 not in Sweden, but in Paris . Adam No. 2 is said to have met Eve in 1964 in a cellar restaurant on the Seine . How and where Adam & Eve really met for the first time is still unproven.
