Adama Jammeh (born June 10, 1993 in Sitanunku ) is a Gambian sprinter .

Athletic career

Adama Jammeh gained his first international experience in 2011 at the Africa Games in Maputo , where he made it to the semi-finals in the 200-meter run , in which he was eliminated with 21.63 s, whereas he over 100 meters with 10.7 s in the lead retired. The following year he reached the African Championships in Porto-Novo in both competitions to the semi-finals, in which he was eliminated with 10.65 s and 21.02 s. With the Gambian 4 x 100 meter relay, he reached the final, but was disqualified there. 2013 he finished in the Islamic Solidarity Games in Palembang in the 100-meter race in 10.59 s sixth place and was about 200 meters in 21.34 s fifth. In 2014 he reached fifth place over 200 meters at the African Championships in Marrakech in 20.80 seconds and was eliminated in the semifinals over 100 meters with 10.41 seconds. The following year he qualified over 200 meters for the World Championships in Beijing , but retired there with 20.81 s in the first round . He then finished fourth over 200 meters at the Africa Games in Brazzaville in 20.74 s and was eliminated in the semi-finals over 100 meters with 10.40 s. Even with the relay, he could not qualify for the final in 40.09 s.

In 2016, he won the silver medal behind South African Wayde van Niekerk at the African Championships in Durban over 200 meters with a new national record of 20.45 seconds . In addition, he was eliminated over 100 meters with 10.29 s in the semifinals. With his achievements, he also qualified for the first time for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated over 200 meters with 20.55 s in the lead . The following year he was fourth at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku in 20.86 s and 40.20 s in each case over 200 meters and with the relay and was eliminated in the semifinals over 100 meters with 10.48 s. He also took part again in the World Championships in London , where he was eliminated again with 20.79 s in the preliminary round. In 2018 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , but retired there over 100 and 200 meters in 10.59 s and 21.11 s and with the relay in 40.57 s in the first round. In August he was eighth over 200 meters at the African Championships in Asaba in 20.91 s and was eliminated in the semi-finals over 100 meters with 10.64 s. The following year he reached the semi-finals at the African Games in Rabat over 100 meters, but could not finish his run there.
