history
Adger originated in the 1880s and is named after Andrew M. Adger, who first moved to Bessemer from South Carolina and operated mines in the area. Since the closure of these mines, the place has seen ups and downs.

Equidistant from the town is an intersection where Interstate 459 begins, which serves as the Birmingham bypass and joins Interstate 59 behind the town. Alabama State Route 5 runs parallel to the route of Interstate 20 .
