Chief Adjutant ( French Adjudant-Chef , Italian Aiutante capo ) is a rank of the Swiss Army (abbr .: Chefadj ) that has existed since January 1, 2004. It is the highest rank of non-commissioned officer and thus corresponds, like the staff and chief adjutant, to the senior staff sergeant of the German armed forces or the vice lieutenant of the Austrian armed forces .
This ranking designates professional non-commissioned officers who serve as command assistants in teaching associations as well as militia - non-commissioned officers who are assigned to the staff of a territorial region.
On assignments abroad, he is referred to as the Chief Warrant Officer (CWO). NATO code : OR-9.
The rank badge consists of two superimposed angles with two bars below. In the middle there is a Swiss cross (Ordonnanzkreuz) set in foliage and above it two more angles one above the other.
