Adolph Marx
Adolph Marx (born February 18, 1915 in Cologne ; † November 1, 1965 ibid) was the first bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville in Texas , USA .
Life
Adolph Marx was born in Cologne in 1915. Emigrated to the US, he was there in 1940 for the Diocese of Corpus Christi for priests ordained.
On July 6, 1956 he was by Pope Pius XII. appointed auxiliary bishop of the same diocese and titular bishop of Citrus . He received his episcopal ordination from Bishop Mariano Simon Garriga on October 9, 1956. Co- consecrators were Auxiliary Bishop John Joseph Krol from Cleveland and Auxiliary Bishop Charles Garrett Maloney from Louisville .
As auxiliary bishop, Marx attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
On July 9, 1965, Pope Paul VI appointed him . as bishop of the newly established Diocese of Brownsville; the inauguration followed on September 2 of the same year. Adolph Marx died suddenly on November 1, 1965 while visiting his home in Cologne.
