Adrie Braat

Adrie Braat (born November 24, 1955 ) is a Dutch jazz musician ( double bass , conductor ) who has been leading the Dutch Swing College Band since 2020 .

Braat studied classical music at the Amsterdam Conservatory ; in the field of jazz he also took lessons from Wilbur Little and John Clayton . At the age of 24 he became a member of Boy Edgar's orchestra . He also played in Jeff Reynolds' Big Band and was part of the Dixieland Pipers from 1981 to 1988 under the direction of Bert de Kort .

Braat accompanied Scott Hamilton , Benny Bailey , Dany Doriz , Wild Bill Davison , Doc Cheatham , Acker Bilk , Pim Jacobs , Louis van Dijk , André Rabini , Peter Appleyard , Joe Muranyi , Laura Fygi , Papa Bue , Peanuts Hucko , Sonja Kimmons , Deborah Carter, Rita Reys , Chris Barber , Marjorie Barnes and Spiegle Willcox . He also played in the sextet of the clarinetist Jan Morks , in the Mennos Daams 'Quartet and as a conductor in various big bands ( Big Band Amsterdam, Zeppos' Big Band, Caledonians Big Band ).

Braat helped out in 1986 as a replacement for the sick Henk Bosch van Drakestein at the Dutch Swing College Band , whose position he has held since 1988. As a band leader he also leads the Biggles Big Band Amsterdam , with whom he performs every Monday and has toured Thailand several times. He has also made recordings with Jeff Reynolds, Menno Daams, the Dixieland Pipers , Jan Morks ' Jazzmates , Zeppos' Big Band , Marcel Salomon, the Flashback Quartet, Hollywood Saxophone Project and various groups under his own name. With the Dutch Swing College Band , he received the Special Appreciation Award and the Dutch Export Award at the North Sea Jazz Festival .
