The Aegean Odyssey is a cruise ship operated by Voyages to Antiquity , which has owned the ship since 2009. It was put into service in 1973 as a RoRo ship under the name Narcis and converted into a cruise ship in 1986. It has been in charter for Road Scholar since 2020 .

history

The Narcis was built under the hull number 617 in the shipyard of the Santierul Naval Galatz in Galați and was launched on June 18, 1972. In August 1973 it was handed over to the Zim Israel Navigation Company .

In 1985 the ship was bought as Alkyon by the Greek shipping company Dolphin Hellas Cruises , which had it converted into a cruise ship in Chalkis in 1986 and renamed it Aegean Dolphin . In 1988 it started service and from then on was stationed in Venice for Mediterranean voyages.

In 1996, the ship was Renaissance Cruises chartered and as Aegean I used. In 1997 and 1998 it made cruises in the Mediterranean for Golden Sun Cruises but was still owned by Dolphin Hellas Cruises. In 2005 it was supposed to be sold to a new owner, but the contract was broken and the ship was launched . It was only bought in 2009 by the newly founded shipping company Voyages to Antiquity and renamed Aegean Odyssey . It has since been used in the Mediterranean and is also small enough to sail through the Corinth Canal . The ship has space for 380 passengers.

Voyages to Antiquity ceased operations at the end of October 2019. The reason for this was, among other things, multiple technical problems of the Aegean Odyssey . The ship has been chartered to the US organization Road Scholar for educational trips since 2020 .

Technical specifications

The Aegean Odyssey is around 140 meters long and 20 meters wide. Her draft is a good 6 meters. With a measurement of 12,094 GT, the ship has a service speed of 18 knots (33 km / h).
