Agave nanchititlensis is a species of plant from the genus of agaves ( Agave ) in the subfamily of the agave family (Agavoideae). The specific epithet nanchititlensis comes from Latin and refers to the occurrence of the species near Cañadas de Nanchititla in the Mexican state of México.

description

Agave nanchititlensis forms daughter rosettes that appear from the leaf axils of this year's leaf rosette . Its numerous semi-fleshy roots are spread out horizontally from the rhizome base . The slender rhizomes are 1.5 to 2 inches long. The four to nine upright, overhanging, linear, tightly fibred leaves are rounded and runny . The leaf blade , spotted on both sides, is 21 to 39 centimeters long and 0.4 to 0.8 centimeters wide. The brown or dark green spots are irregularly shaped. The leaf veins on both sides are covered with individual rows of papillae . The leaf margins have a maroon line. They are entire or, like the leaf veins, tiny papillate . The remnants of the leaf base are fibrous and 5.5 to 7 inches long.

The "eared" inflorescence reaches a height of 35 to 94 centimeters. The very open flower-bearing part is 11 to 22 centimeters long and has seven to ten blooming nodes. The seated flowers are horizontal when fully grown. The long ellipsoid ovary is 11 to 17 millimeters long. The upper parts of the green tepals are tinged with purple. The narrow, cylindrical flower tube is straight or slightly curved. It has a length of 25 to 30 millimeters and is 3 millimeters wide in the middle. The yellowish green tips on both sides are turned back and 6 to 11 millimeters long. The stylus protrudes from the flower tube and is 45 to 56 millimeters long. The club-shaped scars are deeply furrowed and fully expanded. The flowering time is January.

The ellipsoid fruits are 1.5 to 1.9 inches long and 1.1 to 1.2 inches wide. They contain crescent-shaped seeds 3 millimeters in size.

Systematics and distribution

Agave nanchititlensis is common in the state of México in rocky oak or oak-pine forests on slopes.

The first description as Manfreda nanchititlensis by Eizi Matuda was published in 1974. Joachim Thiede and Urs Eggli placed the species in the genus Agave in 1999 .

The species belongs to the subgenus Manfreda and is assigned to the Manfreda group there.
