Agrium establishes itself as an international company under the trade name "Agroservicios Pampeanos" (ASP). Wholesale growth began with the acquisition of Nu-West Industries, a phosphate manufacturer in Idaho .

On October 4, 1996, Agrium began trading on the New York Stock Exchange . In December 1996 the company "Viridian" was merged in Connecticut .
