Agrypnie ( sleep disorder , from gr . Άγρυπνος agrypnos or lat . Agrypnia ) began in 2004 as a solo project by Torsten Hirsch (singing with Nocte Obducta , former guitar with Asaru, Area 51). The band is assigned to the more avant-garde Black Metal (with progressive traits, Doom elements and post-rock borrowings). The band classifies itself as post black metal , but Torsten Hirsch emphasizes not to think about “belonging to the scene and similar nonsense”.

history

Split demo with Fated and F51.4 (2004–2006)

In 2005 a split release with the German death metal band Fated appeared on the Umtrunk Mailorder.

The next release, an independent album recorded by Torsten Hirsch alone, was released in 2006 on the Supreme Chaos Records label under the name F51.4 , only the lyrics came from Marcel Breuer (guitar, lyrics, vocals on Nocte Obducta ).

The album title F51.4 refers to the medical diagnostic system ICD-10 and stands for a non-organic sleep disorder, which manifests itself in nightly episodes of extreme fear and panic with violent screaming. Torsten Hirsch himself does not comment on the meaning of the title, but has had problems with sleep disorders in the past and is therefore fascinated by "how dreams, sleep or sleep deprivation affect people". The lyrics of F51.4 mainly deal with topics such as social loneliness and isolation, which are also reflected in the overall concept of the album design and the musical elaboration.

The music is difficult to classify stylistically. It has elements of (post) black metal and death metal . The clinically sterile sound of the drum computer, which was replaced by a human drummer at the concerts, was often criticized. The use of the drum computer was justified by Torsten with a lack of money and the better sound quality. Looking back on the debut album, he thinks that the music sounds "a bit colder" thanks to the drum computer.

Live debut and exit (2007-2008)

The first line-up was put together by Torsten Hirsch, who did the vocals live, and consisted of René Schott (Ex-Rising Hate, Ex-The Crap, Ex-Angelus Mortis), Nikolaj "Nachtsturm" Rüster, Andreas Ballnus (Philosophobia, Paul- Di'Anno -Band) and Carsten Pinkle (Cheeno, Ex-Affliction, Ex- Autumnblaze ).

On October 2nd, 2007 the band had their live debut in Darmstadt. Guitarist Nikolaj was replaced by Dominik P. (Wastefall). Further appearances were at the Heidenei Festival, which took place on April 6, 2008 in Ludwigsburg in the Rock Fabrik, and at the Summer Breeze .

The second album, which bears the name Exit , was released in August 2008. It contains eleven tracks and has a total playing time of more than 60 minutes. This time, with the exception of Fenster zum Hof , Wohin , Schwarz and In den Weiten (by Marco V.), the texts were not written by Marcel, but by Torsten Hirsch. The drum computer was replaced by René Schott on the drums, who had been part of the formation since 2007.

16 [485] and the first Flame Drive Tour (2009–2011)

In December 2009 Dominik P. and Andreas Ballnus were replaced by Martin K. and Patrick Baumann (Melkor, Ex- Nocte Obducta ).

After several postponements, an album already recorded in August 2009 with the title 16 was released in December 2009 [485] . The producer Phil contributed the bass guitar tracks, René Schott played the drums, and Torsten Hirsch sang and played the guitar. The text for 16 [485] / bridge made of glass comes from Eïs composer Alboin. Since then he has occasionally sung the song at concerts with Torsten.

Also in January 2010, Matthias “Nathanael” S. ( Heretoir , Thränenkind, Bonjour Tristesse) replaced Carsten, who left the band due to private circumstances, on bass. Since 2010, drummer Phil Hertrich (Hellscape, Ex-Rising Hate, Ex-Violation) has occasionally been active for the band as a live substitute for René.

On the first round of the Flammentriebe tour (together with Dornenreich ) you traveled to Germany , Austria and Switzerland .

Second Flame Drive Tour, Asche EP and Aetas Cineris (2011-2013)

In October 2011 the Flammentriebe tour was continued and extended to the Netherlands , the Czech Republic and Italy . In the course of this, the later guitarist David "Eklatanz" C. ( Heretoir , live guitar for Tear Child) helped out for Patrick. In November 2011 the Asche EP was released as a foretaste of a new album, as although the recordings were made in the studio in July 2011, the recordings had to be interrupted for time-related and organizational reasons and could only be continued in September 2012.

At the turn of the year David "Eklatanz" C. replaced the outgoing guitarist Patrick Baumann and in June 2012 the previous live keyboardist Sebastian "Flange" Fürst ( Nocte Obducta ) joined the band .

In summer 2012 Agrypnie played (with Dornenreich, Cannibal Corpse , Der Weg einer Freiheit , Eisregen ) at the Extremefest in Hünxe and (with Dark Tranquility , Paradise Lost (band) , Behemoth (band) ) at Summer Breeze .

On March 15, 2013, Supreme Chaos Records released the album Aetas Cineris , which also includes the pieces Gnosis and Awakening from the Ashes EP. The release went hand in hand with the Aetas Cineris tour (together with Heretoir, Der Weg einer Freiheit and various local bands such as Ruk Yale Ketema, Orcus Patera, Warcult, Karg! And Dead Alone).

In March 2014, Nathanael left the bass for personal reasons after four years. He has been replaced by the band's former guitarist, Andreas Ballnus. A tour to mark the ten-year anniversary of the band was implemented for October 2014. Since Rene Schott was not available for the tour, Moe Harringer from Mammon replaced him on drums. Recordings for a re-release of the song material from the Split Demo with Fated from 2005, which were already planned for July 2014, had to be postponed for the time being. A new album is also being planned.

In November 2014 it was communicated via the Facebook page that Rene Schott would leave the band after seven years for personal reasons. The current touring drummer Moe Harringer was then confirmed as a permanent replacement for Rene.

In the summer of 2017, Martin played his last concert at the Wolfszeit Festival and left the band for private reasons.

At the beginning of 2018 David left the band for personal reasons.
