Air Doll (Original title: 空 気 人形 , Kūki Ningyō ) is a Japanese film directed by Hirokazu Koreeda from 2009 . The film is based on a manga by Yoshiie Gōda.
action
The film is about forty-year-old bachelor Hideo who owns an inflatable sex doll that he calls Nozomi . He leads a life with her like with a lover, because he talks to her, he eats with her, has sex with her and he buys her clothes. One day when Hideo is at work, Nozomi comes to life and explores the city. In doing so, she becomes aware that she is a doll and has no soul, but the other people in the city of Tokyo also appear as if they were dolls.
criticism
“The playful, fantastic, visually powerful film about a doll who wants to be a real woman, a real person, may be a bit unsettling at the beginning. But from minute to minute he takes you more into the magical, poetic world of a radical philosophical discourse. In earlier works, Kore-eda was about the transition from life to death, from being to not being. The new film is completely different, he said at a recent screening. This time he is going from non-being to being if he wants to show what makes people human. "
