Bae Doona (born October 11, 1979 in Seoul ) is a South Korean actress .

Life

Bae Doona began her career as a model and then worked her way up to film via television series.

Her breakthrough was the role of the politically radical friend of the title character (played by Shin Ha-kyun ) in Park Chan-wook's Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance ; in the follow-up Lady Vengeance (2005) she has a cameo .

In 2014, she played a policewoman in the film A Girl at My Door , who protects the young girl Dohee , who is constantly beaten by her father and her classmates. For her performance she received the Golden Rooster for best leading actress in a foreign language film and the Asian Film Award .

In 2018 she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
