Ajin - Demi-Human ( jap. 亜 人 ) is a manga series by Gamon Sakurai that has been published in Japan since 2012. In 2016, a 26-episode anime television series was broadcast. A movie trilogy was released between 2015 and 2016.

For 17 years, immortals have repeatedly appeared in the world, called Ajin, persecuted by mankind and captured for experiments. The high school student Kei Nagai is run over in an accident, but does not die, but discovers that he too is an Ajin. From then on, he is hunted by many people - especially the government, which is conducting experiments on Ajin.

The series has been published in Japan since July 6, 2012 in the magazine good! Afternoon by Kodansha Publishing . In the first chapters, Tsuina Miura wrote the story, while Gamon Sakurai only drew. Sakurai later took over the series alone. The chapters have also been published in 14 anthologies so far.

A German translation has been published by Egmont Manga since June 2015 in 13 volumes so far. An English version will be published online by Crunchyroll . Norma Editorial publishes the manga in Spanish and Tong Li Publishing in Chinese.

Anime

An anime film trilogy was produced in Japan. The first film, Ajin - Shōdō ( 亜 人 - 衝動 - ) was released in Japanese cinemas on November 27, 2015. All three films are directed by Hiroaki Ando . The second part, Ajin - Shōtotsu ( 亜 人 - 衝突 - ), started on May 6, 2016, the third film with the title Ajin - Shōgeki ( 亜 人 - 衝 戟 - ) on September 23, 2016.

An adaptation as a 13-part anime television series was broadcast from January 16 to April 9, 2016 after midnight (and thus on the previous television day ) on TBS , as well as on Mainichi Hōsō , CBC and BS-TBS with an offset of up to one day . From October 8 to December 24, 2016, a second season followed with a further 13 episodes on TBS, as well as with an offset on Mainichi Hōsō and BS-TBS.

Netflix licensed the series outside of Japan and has been offering it as a stream since April 2016 with Japanese, German, English, French and Spanish synchronization. The series is also available in these languages ​​and in Italian in a Japanese version with subtitles.

In 2014 the series was nominated for the Osamu Tezuka Culture Prize in the “Reader's Prize” category, and in the same year it was nominated for the Kōdansha Manga Prize in the “ His ” category . Editions 5 and 6 sold over 250,000 times in Japan in the first few weeks. The fourth volume has already been printed in a first edition of 520,000 copies.
