Akçakent is a city and capital of the district of the same name in the province of Kırşehir in Central Anatolia . The place is about 50 kilometers north of the provincial capital Kırşehir . The place was previously called Şehricedit and when it was renamed Akçakent in 1965, it also became the center of a Bucak in the Çiçekdağı district .
The district is in the north of the province. It borders Çiçekdağı District in the east, the Central District in the south, Akpınar District in the southwest and west, and Kırıkkale Province in the north . A road crosses the district in a north-south direction that connects the D785 to Kirşehir in the south with the E 88 in the north. In the northwest the Kılıçözü Çayı runs through the district.
The district was formed in 1900 from the western part of the Çiçekdağı district and was a Bucak there until then. At the last census before the change of area (1985) the Bucak had a population of 14,581, 450 of them for the main town of the Bucak ( Bucak Merkezi ).
At the end of 2018, the district consisted of the district town of 20 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 166 residents. The population ranged from 465 ( Yaylaözü ) to 44 ( Hamzabey ). With a population density of 11.4 it did not reach a third of the provincial density (of 36.7 inhabitants per km²).
