The Rasmus is a Finnish alternative rock - band . In Germany , the band was first known in 2003 with the title In the Shadows , although it has been around since 1994 and has been successful in Finland for a long time.

Members

The band consists of the four members Lauri Johannes Ylönen (vocals; born April 23, 1979 in Helsinki ), Aki Markus Hakala (drums; born October 28, 1979 in Espoo ), Pauli Esko Antero Rantasalmi (guitar; born May 1, 1979 in Helsinki) and Eero Aleksi Heinonen (bass; born November 27, 1979 in Helsinki). Until 1999, instead of Aki Hakala, Janne Heiskanen was still active on drums, but he emigrated to Thailand . At that time the band was still called Rasmus ; to avoid confusion with the Swedish DJ Rasmus, they renamed themselves The Rasmus .

Band history

The history of the band began - like that of many rock groups - in the garage at home. At that time the band members were 15 years old. Initially they called themselves Anttila , but renamed themselves due to their lack of success. In 1996 their debut album Peep won gold in Finland. After the third album Hellofatester , which was released in 1998, the name change to The Rasmus .

In 2000 the band switched to the Playground Music Scandinavia label and began recording a new album with producers Martin Hansen and Mikael Nord Anderson. There was a complete break with the previous style of music. Instead of funky alternative rock , the band now relied on catchy pop-rock compositions. The new album Into was released in October 2001. It reached number 1 in the charts in Finland and gave The Rasmus its first successes in other parts of Europe.

The final Europe-wide breakthrough came with the follow-up Dead Letters , which was released in July 2003 by Universal Music . In Germany, the album, like the previously released single In the Shadows , made it to number one on the German music charts .

Lauri Ylönen and Pauli Rantasalmi still manage the bands Kwan and Killer, but Killer broke up after two albums were released for private reasons. The Rasmus, Killer and also Kwan are good friends and have a common trademark ( Dynasty ). In 2004 Lauri Ylönen took the title Life Burns together with HIM front singer Ville Valo and Apocalyptica Bittersweet as well as exclusively with Apocalyptica ! on. The song All I Want was recorded with Killer and Killer Chillin 'at the Grotto with Kwan and Siiri Nordin .

In February 2006 the band gave five concerts together with HIM and Negative in Germany, one in Austria and one in Switzerland. From mid-March to mid-April 2006, The Rasmus toured Central and South America , Mexico and South Africa .

In September 2008 the album Black Roses was released . It was recorded partly in Helsinki and partly in Nashville, USA. Producers were Desmond Child and Harry Sommerdahl , the songs were mixed by Michael Wegener. The single Livin 'in a World without You entered the German single charts at number 14.

In September 2009 the best-of-album Best of The Rasmus: 2001-2009 was released which contained some of the band's songs from those years as well as the song October & April , which was recorded with Anette Olzon. After a long hiatus, the band released their new single I'm a Mess in March 2012 .

In February 2012 the band announced that they would be releasing their new album The Rasmus on April 18, 2012 . The album was released in Germany on April 20th.
