al-Qadarif ( Arabic القضارف, DMG al-Qaḍārif ; Alternative spelling Gedaref , more rarely Gadaref , Gadarif or Qadārif ) is a federal state in Sudan .

It has an area of ​​75,263 km² and around 1.3 million inhabitants. Its capital is the city of the same name al-Qadarif , other larger towns are Gallabat , al-Hawatah and Doka .

history

1919–1991 the area of ​​what is now the state of al-Qadarif belonged to the province of Kassala , from 1991–1994 it belonged to the newly created state of asch-Sharqiyya, which resembled the province of Kassala from 1919 to 1973. On February 14, 1994, al-Qadarif was split off as a separate state.
