history
From 1919 to 1976 the area of today's state of al-Jazira belonged to the province of an-Nil al-azraq (Blue Nile), which also included the areas of today's states of an-Nil al-abyad , an-Nil al-azraq and Sannar . In 1976 this province was split into three provinces and the province of al-Jazira was created on the territory of the present state. From 1991 to 1994 the area of al-Jazira belonged again to the newly created state of al-Wusta, which resembled the province of an-Nil al-azraq from 1919 to 1974. On February 14, 1994, al-Jazeera became again, this time as a federal state.
economy
Al-Jazeera is one of the most fertile states in Sudan. Irrigation projects started in the 1920s ( Jazira project ) particularly promoted cotton cultivation .
education
The provincial capital Wad Madani on the banks of the Blue Nile is the seat of the University of Al-Jazeera .
