Scharq Darfur ( Arabic شرق دارفور, German East Darfur ) is a federal state of Sudan .
It is one of five states in the Darfur region . It was founded in January 2012 as a result of the ongoing peace process in the Darfur region. Its capital is ad-Du'ain . The state was separated from Janub Darfur . In 2017 the population was estimated at around 1.5 million.
