The al-Shabab Club ( Arabic نادي الشباب Nādī asch-Schabab , DMG Nādī š-Šabāb ) is a football club from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia . The club plays in the country's highest league, the Saudi Professional League . The home games are played in the König-Fahd-Stadion .

Club history

The association was founded in 1947 under the name Nadi Schabab ar-Riyad (" Riyad's Youth Club"). The founder and first president of the new association, Abdulrahman Bin Saeed, left the association in 1957 after internal disputes. He then founded the association known today as al-Hilal . In 1967 two smaller associations, al Najmah and al Marekh, merged with Shabab. Since then the association has been called al-Shabab Club ( Arabic نادي الشباب). In the early days of the club, the team colors were initially white-green, after the merger orange-blue, before finally in 1977 the current colors were white-gray-black. In 1993, the club managed to win the championship for the third time in a row. No other club succeeded in this before al-Shabab. In the competition of the Asian Club Championship, today's AFC Champions League , the club reached the final, but lost 1-0 against Pas Tehran . But in 2001 the first international title was won. In the final of the Asian Cup Winners' Cup , Dalian Shide was won 4-2. The last of five championships so far was won in 2006. After the 2008/09 season just ended, the club finished 4th and qualified for the Asian Champions League, just like last year.
