Al Aarons
Albert N. "Al" Aarons (born March 23, 1932 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , † November 17, 2015 in Laguna Woods , California ) was an American jazz and studio musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn ) and music producer .
Live and act
Aarons had private lessons in his hometown and Evanston from 1947 to 1950 . From 1951 to 1953, then in Chicago with Renold Schilke (1910–1982) of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. From 1955 to 1957 he studied at Wayne State University ; in Detroit in the mid-1950s he worked with pop musicians such as Johnny Ray , LaVern Baker , Jackie Wilson , Johnny Mathis , as well as Billie Holiday , Yusef Lateef and Barry Harris . Then he was seen with Wild Bill Davis . From 1961 to 1969 he was a member of the Count Basie Orchestra . He then moved to Los Angeles , where he worked as a freelancer in film and television industry studios, with Gerald Wilson , Buddy Collette (on the Flip Wilson Show ) and Henry Mancini , among others . He also played with Frank Foster and Frank Wess / Harry Edison . From 1945 to 1996 he was involved in 162 recording sessions in the jazz area alone. a. at Bobby Bryant , Kenny Burrell , Stanley Clarke ( School Days ), Ella Fitzgerald , Gene Harris , Milt Jackson , Carole King , Maria Muldaur , Carmen McRae , Oliver Nelson , Zoot Sims , Sarah Vaughan . In 1995 he recorded the album Al Aarons & the LA Jazz Caravan under his own name . He was also a co-founder of the short-term Legend Records label with Red Callender , Grover Mitchell and Buddy Collette .
