Alan Price (born April 19, 1942 in Fatfield , County Durham , England ) is a British singer , pianist , organist , arranger and composer .

Live and act

From the age of eight, Price received music lessons for piano , guitar and bass . He first played in a few local bands until he founded the Alan Price Rhythm & Blues Combo in Newcastle in 1957 . After Eric Burdon came on as lead singer, the band was renamed The Animals in 1964 because fans called the stage show "beastly" . However, Eric Burdon later gave the reason for the name as a reference to a buddy who was called "Animal" Hogg.

In this formation his organ playing was formative for the style of the band with the successes Baby Let Me Take You Home , The House of the Rising Sun , Bring It On Home To Me etc. The style of the Animals was more rhythm - & - blues- oriented, while Price represented more the pop / beat style in his solo projects .

In 1965 Alan Price left Animals because of musical differences and fear of flying. In 1966 he conquered the UK charts several times with his newly formed band Alan Price Set . The innovative organ arrangement of his cover version of the soul classic I Put a Spell on You by Screamin 'Jay Hawkins , which in 1968 inspired Vincent Crane , the organist of Arthur Brown , to his instrumental interpretation of this song, was the style.

After that, Alan Price turned to television. He worked on a number of television series and met Georgie Fame in the process. The collaboration between the two resulted in the LP Fame and Price, Price and Fame, Together in 1971 and the single hit Rosetta , which in 2014 was cited by ESA for landing on Comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko by the daughter probe of Rosetta . Price also wrote the music for the film O Lucky Man , in which he also starred.

Since the 1973 film "The Successful" (O Lucky Man!) , Price has been writing film music at irregular intervals, preferably for director Lindsay Anderson .

In 1974 the collaboration with Georgie Fame ended, and Price recorded the solo album Between Today and Yesterday , which also contained a single hit with Jarrow Song . In 1975, one of the first Rockpalast concerts to be shown on television was an appearance by Alan Price in London with a large orchestra.

In 1988 Price made another comeback when his song Changes from the 1973 O Lucky Man soundtrack was used in a VW commercial, which made him hit the charts again. Occasionally he appeared as a guest with his old band The Animals .

Since March 2009 Price has been touring intensively through England again.
