The 50th Festivali i Këngës took place from December 26th to 29th, 2011 and was the Albanian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku .

The Albanian contribution was chosen again by the Festivali i Këngës (FiK), which has been held annually since 1962 and celebrated its 50th edition in 2011. In addition to the usual two semi-finals, there was also an anniversary show in which classics and evergreens from the past 49 years were sung. Among the singers there were Aurela Gaçe and Frederik Ndoci , two former Albanian Eurovision representatives. In addition to the two semi-finals, the FiK thus comprised four evenings.

14 songs were presented in each of the semi-finals, and after the evaluation of a jury, ten of these songs qualified for the final on December 29th, in which a jury also decided. Previously there were reports that the winner would be determined by a telephone vote alone , but this did not come true.

In the evaluation phase, in addition to a children's choir, all of the country's former Eurovision representatives since 2004 appeared with shortened versions of their competition entries - Anjeza Shahini with The Image of You (2004), Ledina Çelo with Tommorow I Go (2005), Frederik Ndoci with Hear My Plea ( 2007), Olta Boka with Zemrën e lamë peng (2008), Kejsi Tola with Carry Me in Your Dreams (2009), Juliana Pasha with It's All About You (2010) and Aurela Gaçe with Feel the Passion (2011); Luiz Ejlli was not present, instead a video of his performance at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 was shown. In addition, competition prizes were awarded:

• Best melody: Endri Sana for Mijëra vjet
• Best orchestration: Klodian Qafoku for Vlen Sa Një Jetë

Eurovision Song Contest

Rona Nishliu is supposed to represent Albania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku . There she is supposed to sing her competition entry Suus in one of the two semifinals . Changes are still necessary to this, however, as it clearly exceeds the maximum duration of three minutes at the Eurovision Song Contest.

Nishliu, who was born in Mitrovica in Kosovo in 1986 , is the first Kosovar Albanian to represent Albania in international competitions.
