Albert Ludwig Ewald

Albert Ludwig Ewald (born August 6, 1832 in Opole ; † December 2, 1903 in Woltersdorf ) was a German forest scientist and historian .

Life

Albert Ewald was born on August 6th, 1832 in Opole, the son of a forest master. He attended high school in Marienwerder and then the Berlin Friedrich-Wilhelms-Gymnasium . In 1851 he passed his school leaving examination . He then studied at the Eberswalde Forest Academy . In 1853 he moved to the University of Berlin to study law and camera science . Afterwards he worked as a forester , but in 1860 he studied at the University of Leipzig , later at the University of Bonn , philology and history. In 1863 he was awarded a doctorate in philology from the latter university .

After completing his doctorate, Ewald worked as a substitute at the grammar school in Quedlinburg . From 1863 he taught at the Latina . Appointed collaborator and inspection teacher in 1864, he received his habilitation from the University of Halle in the following year . Since then he has taught at the same time at the Latina and at the university. In 1875 he was appointed associate professor of middle and modern history , especially Brandenburg-Prussian history and forest science. In 1885 he left Latina, but from 1890 he was plagued by depression . He also got sick more often.

In 1902 he left the university due to his illness and went to a sanatorium . On December 2nd, 1903, Ewald died at the age of 71 in Woltersdorf.
