Albert Gustaf Dahlman (born February 17, 1848 in Norberg , Norberg municipality as Anders Gustaf Dalman , † July 30, 1920 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish executioner and the last to have executed a death sentence in Sweden.

Life

After his military career - he was since 1868 in Västmanland - Regiment stationed and reached the rank of sergeant - Dahlman was on August 5, 1885 as the executioner of the capital Stockholm and the province of Stockholm County used. From 1887 on he was the only executioner in Sweden after Per Petter Christiansson Steineck emigrated to the United States .

Enforcements

Dahlman carried out the last six executions in Sweden, five with the hangman's ax and one with the guillotine .

Others

No executions have been carried out in the last decade of his tenure as an executioner. The year after his death, the death penalty for peacetime crimes was abolished, and in 1973 war-time crimes as well.
