biography

Albert Haberer spent his childhood and youth in the Saar-Palatinate city of St. Ingbert. In 1954 he passed his Abitur at the secondary school there. From 1954 to 1960 he studied painting at the Saarbrücken University Institute for Art and Craft Education with Boris Kleint . At the same time he studied art history and history at the Saarland University , a. a. called Eisenwerth by Josef Adolf Schmoll . He dedicated his state examination thesis to the religious aspect in the work of the St. Ingbert painter Albert Weisgerber . From 1960 until his retirement in 1996 Haberer worked as an art teacher and history teacher, 35 years of which at the Cusanus-Gymnasium in St. Wendel .

In addition to his teaching activities, Haberer held a number of honorary positions. From 1975 he worked for four years as the state chairman of his professional organization, the Association of German Art Educators. From 1975 to 1985 he was chairman of the Saarland “Art curriculum commission”, until 1996 chairman of the state conference “Fine arts for high school”. Haberer was one of the initiators of the St. Wendel "Galerie im Zwinger", an amalgamation of regional artists with an art gallery in an old city building, the medieval "Zwinger". In addition to Haberer, the first gallery owners were Leo Kornbrust , Axel Büttner and Aloys Ohlmann, among others .

In 1964 Haberer married Maria Feichtner, with whom he had three daughters and a son. He died in April 2020 at the age of 86 in St. Wendel.

Haberer went on numerous study trips, especially to the Mediterranean regions. The impressions from these trips inspired him to create cycles and series in his artistic work. In the same way he appropriated his favorite region of Lorraine over the years . His own claim in his art was based on the Humboldtian postulate of universal knowledge. His broad knowledge in different areas not only enabled him to deal with literature, music and history intellectually; Current issues from politics and society also attracted him to critical artistic implementation. His professional colleague Carsten Mayer said: "Haberer's work shows a differentiated awareness of the problems of artistic creation, is interspersed with reflections that hint at the rich horizon of knowledge shine through." He repeatedly processed his anger about politics and social inconsistencies in his work; For example, he had a jet jet hit the St. Wendel basilica or the Saarland “ NapoleonOskar Lafontaine held his own head in his lap.

One subject area that occupied a large space in his work was the female gender. Haberer took up this topic in numerous works, exaggerated the common clichés and presented conservative worldviews with exaggerated depictions of female charms and at the same time ad absurdum .

Haberer possessed strong compositional skills. In this respect, his penchant for processing architectural elements was particularly developed. In his pictures of landscapes and building ensembles or in still lifes his fine feeling for architecture and composition is evident . He arranged his work, laid it out like an architect in an unmistakable handwriting. Haberer's works are often divided into two parts. A calm, flat area, often monochrome, relates to the depicted objects and thus creates the arc of tension that the artist strives for.

Albert Haberer used both the technique of collage and the instruments of painting in oil , acrylic and casein in his work .
