Albert Hauser

Albert Hauser-Rebsamen (born August 21, 1914 in Wädenswil ; † September 2, 2013 ) was a Swiss historian .

Life

Albert Hauser, son of the manufacturer Emil Hauser, grew up in Wädenswil and studied history at the universities of Zurich and Paris from 1935 to 1938 . After receiving his doctorate in 1938, he worked as an editor and secretary of the Zurich FDP and as a manager of business associations. He received his habilitation at the ETH Zurich in 1956 and was appointed adjunct professor in 1962. From 1965 he was associate professor and from 1970 to 1979 full professor for the history and sociology of agriculture and forestry. He published on Swiss economic , social , cultural , everyday , agricultural and forest history . He was interested in the problems of the rural population in the transition from an agricultural to an industrial society . His books Swiss Economic and Social History (1961) and Peasant Rules (1973) became standard works. In 1992 he was awarded the Upper Rhine Culture Prize.

He was President of the Lake Zurich Landscape Association, a member of the Monument Preservation Commission of the Canton of Zurich and President of the Federal Expert Commission for Mountain Areas. In addition, after training with Paul Bodmer, he also worked as a draftsman and painter. Hauser was married to Trudi Rebsamen from 1941, with whom he had two children.
