Albert Ludwig (theologian)

Albert Ludwig (born August 28, 1868 in Unterschefflenz ; † January 9, 1957 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German Protestant clergyman and local historian.

Life

The teacher's son studied theology in Heidelberg and lived in a student apartment in Handschuhsheim during his studies from 1886 to 1891 . After graduating, he worked as a Protestant vicar in Schwetzingen , Kehl and Rheinbischofsheim . In the school service he was at the higher educational institutions in Heidelberg and Mannheim . In 1896 he married Hermine Laubinger from Sinsheim, the marriage had three children. He later worked as a pastor in Meersburg (1897 to 1900), Gallenweiler (1900 to 1904), Eichstetten (1904 to 1925) and Kleinkems (from 1925). In 1933 he retired, which he spent in Freiburg im Breisgau.

He has written numerous works on ecclesiastical history, his main work is the ecclesiastical life of the Evangelical-Protestant Church in Baden . In 1917 he was made an honorary doctorate from Heidelberg University.

During his studies he wrote his first praise for Handschuhsheim . During a later stay in Handschuhsheim, he added a fourth verse to the ode, which consisted of three verses. With a melody also composed by Ludwig, the song became the home song of Handschuhsheim under the title An des Berges Fuß lies.
