Albert Schläpfer (politician, 1877)

Albert Schläpfer (born May 23, 1877 in Herisau ; † March 31, 1955 in St. Gallen ; resident in Rehetobel ) was a Swiss printer , publisher and politician from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Albert Schläpfer was a son of Johannes Peter Schläpfer, printer, and Anna Louise Baumann. He was a grandson of Michael Schläpfer . In 1902 he married Dora Maria Schäfer, daughter of Otto Schäfer, architect and builder . He attended the St. Gallen Cantonal School . He then completed an apprenticeship as a printer in Munich . In 1900, Schläpfer acquired the printing works and the publishing house of Der Oberthurgauer in Arbon and was the editor and editor of this newspaper. In 1915 he took over the printing and publishing house of his uncle Fritz Schläpfer in Herisau. He published the Appenzeller Zeitung , but without continuing to work as an editor. Schläpfer set up an editorial staff that followed a strictly liberal direction. From 1918 to 1923 he was a member of the Herisau municipal council . From 1925 to 1939 he served as a church leader and from 1936 to 1939 as president of the synod . From 1934 to 1948 he was a board member of the Swiss Book Printers Association and of the St. Gallic-Appenzell Newspaper Publishers Association. He sat on the board of directors of the Appenzeller Bahn .
