Life

family

Albrecht von Kalckstein was the son of Jakob von Kalckstein (1544 – after 1623) and Margarethe von der Groeben († after 1592).

Military career

Albrecht von Kalckstein was an officer in the Electoral Saxon and later in the Polish service. In 1625 he was promoted to Rittmeister and in 1631 as a company commander of a cavalry company to lieutenant colonel. In 1632 he was also given the command of a dragoons regiment ( mustered at the Albrechtsburg on June 18, 1632 ). In 1633 his companies were engaged in pushing back the Croatian units that invaded Bohemia near Böhmisch-Kamnitz . In 1634 his regiment was near Zwickau , as the chronicler Christian Lehmann reports. In the same year he took part in the siege of the city and Veste Coburg under Wilhelm von Lamboy . In 1636 the riding company was in Saalfeld / Saale .

During the Thirty Years' War he became lieutenant general on the Electoral Saxon side in 1644 .

Opposition to Friedrich Wilhelm

After his military career he returned to his family estates and became one of the leading figures in the opposition to the Elector of Brandenburg Friedrich Wilhelm. Together with his son Christian Ludwig von Kalckstein, he was the spokesman for the Prussian estates, which demanded the same freedoms from the elector as had already been granted to the nobility in Poland. From the beginning of 1661 he led the class resistance in Königsberg together with the chairman of the city jury Hieronymus Roth . In May 1661 negotiations with the Prussian envoy Minister Otto von Schwerin took place without result . In the belief that the Polish government would support, recognition of Prussian sovereignty was still refused. Despite the homage to the Prussian estates in October 1663, the opposition to the elector continued. His son continued the relentless opposition until his own death.

Albrecht von Kalckstein was Starost von Oletzko and royal Polish chamberlain . He was the heir of Knauten , Wogau , Schultitten , Mühlhausen , Oegeln (near Gubin), Graventhien and Otten .

family

Kalckstein was married to Mariana von Wiedebach (1610–1653) and, in addition to Christian Ludwig von Kalckstein, was also the father of Christoph Albrecht von Kalckstein (father of Christoph Wilhelm von Kalckstein ). He died in his manor house in Knauten and was buried with his family in the church in Mühlhausen .

His wife Mariana and Albrecht von Kalckstein received homage on her death.
