Alessandro Crescenzi (Cardinal)

Alessandro Crescenzi CRS (born September 12, 1607 in Rome ; † May 8, 1688 ibid) was an Italian cardinal and Roman Catholic archbishop .

biography

He belonged to the ancient noble Roman family of the Crescenzi . After he was rejected by the Capuchins , he accepted religious life in the Somaskan order.

On July 13, 1643 he was elected Bishop of Termoli . On June 13 of the following year he was transferred to the combined seat of Ortona and Campli and on August 26, 1652 he was appointed Bishop of Bitonto , whose title he retained until 1668.

Pope Innocent X sent him as nuncio to the Duke of Savoy ; In 1671 he was named the Latin Patriarch of Alexandria .

In the consistory of May 27, 1675 he was elevated to cardinal and received Santa Prisca as the titular church . On February 24, 1676 he was appointed Bishop of Recanati and Loreto with the personal title of Archbishop .

As a cardinal he took part in the conclave of 1676 , which Pope Innocent XI. chose.

From 1685 to 1687 he was treasurer of the Holy College of Cardinals .

Alessandro Cosimo Crescenzi died on May 8, 1688 in Rome and was buried in the church of Santa Maria in Vallicella .
