Alex Chernov
Alex Chernov (born May 12, 1938 in Lithuania ) is an Australian lawyer and former governor of Victoria .
Life
Chernov was born in Lithuania to Russian parents who moved with him to Salzburg before he went to school . In 1949 the family emigrated to Australia, where he attended Melbourne High School . He then completed an economics degree in 1961 and a law degree at the University of Melbourne in 1968 .
After graduation, Chernov worked as a lawyer specializing in business law. In 1980 he was appointed Crown Attorney . In 2009 he was elected Chancellor of the University of Melbourne.
On April 8, 2011, Chernov was sworn in as the 28th Governor of Victoria and held this office until June 30, 2015. Linda Dessau was her successor .
He is married and has three children.
